I have been receiving medical treatment at Lyons and East Orange for over 12 years.. and have interacted with many medical professionals and staff.. in any large hospital setting, you will encounter dedicated people and sometimes, some that are just not smart enough to gargle.
I recently had shoulder surgery and I rate it 5 stars 110%. Drs, nurses, staff were outstanding and the scheduling was perfect.
God Bless all those who take care of us veterans at both hospitals.

I can only speak on what services I have used in the last year which is their labor and delivery which was 10/10, highly recommend delivering there if you are a low risk pregnancy (no nicu) the staff were so friendly and helpful. Their laboratory services were also amazing!! We had blood work done on our one year old and the staff were friendly and did an amazing job making our baby feel comfortable. They took us on time and had awesome availability for working people. Highly recommend Riverview for these services.

I delivered my son here in 2024. My Obgyn was excellent and he did a wonderful job with my C-section. The only reason why I’m giving four stars is because during my recovery although overall everyone was very kind and helpful. There was one nurse that I had for two days. (My fault should have requested someone else) And I remember every single time she came in she had a nasty attitude like she didn’t wanna help. Once in the middle of the night I needed help going to the bathroom because first of all getting out of the bed by yourself a day after surgery and even being able to pull down, underwear is excruciating and I don’t think they understand that… clearly not… And I remember it was about 3 AM and she was like “what”? And refused to help me in the bathroom and just stared and left. I remember crying from pain and just slowly crawling into bed hysterically. I’ll never forget how crappy she was. I was in horrible pain… hopefully they understand that this type of energy isn’t acceptable for patients out of surgery.

Relevance Treatment Center was a necessary step in my recovery to secure sobriety and live a life worth living. Their PHP, IOP programs helped me to regain tools and skills to support my mental & physical health. I have been struggling very much and when I arrived, I was met with the upmost respect, care, support and kindness. It is a comfortable & safe environment for those struggling with mental health issues, substance addictions, etc. and it is all owed to the loving staff. In their own respective manners, the amazingly sweet receptionist LeaAnn made the environment feel warm and friendly from the very beginning, she always said good morning and how is your day, truly caring about how you felt and being honest, it was hard for her not to make your day better. The technician and maintenance team involving the hilarious and comforting Joe & Rob would always find a solution to any of our needs and make us priority #1, yet would always have some time to talk and joke around with us during our groups in between groups. They are tremendous and I thank them for making rough days better. Words cannot describe the level of care and effort put by the clinical team, but Chelsea, Gracie, Henry, Monika, Josh, Julie & Victoria (Both case managers who helped individual clients with housing, financial, income, etc.) were monumental in my recovery and ability to cope with my issues in life. I am grateful for the work they do and their passion behind every intent. I felt validated everyday and I cannot thank them enough. The medical team including Dr. Paul Gazzara, nurse practitioner Latifah Oparison & Nurse Patty were incredibly helpful and understanding in the medications that were necessary for me in my beginning stages of recovery. Everyone in the admissions team including John, Gina, Dan & Tabitha made the initial steps very easy to grasp and helped throughout the way. They helped majorly ease any financial burden. Clinical directors Jess & Melanie deal with a lot of work and not often did I see them, yet they always made time for anyone to come and talk about any issues or just to have a conversation with them. They are incredibly kind and amazing at their field of work, they care and I am very grateful. Would definitely recommend for those who have or are currently with mental health/substance abuse. In my experience of rehab centers, detox, sober living, this has been one of the greatest.

I attended Soba for my alcoholism October 20, 2025. I was extremely impressed with the living space.
The group room has a huge couch for all to sit in comfortably while learning about addiction. My bedroom was decorated nicely and my bed was very, very comfortable. The tech team was outstanding. All of them genuinely care about all of us. If I needed anything they would always follow through.
The food, was outstanding made daily by a professional chef. My favorite meal was filet mignon, garlic mashed potatoes and fresh cooked asparagus. All the meals were perfectly proportioned, fresh and packed with nutrition.
The clinical team were right on point. I got everyone of my meds 3 times a day ( I have mid-day meds) When I struggled with sleep the pyschiatrist was quick to get me on a different sleep meditation that worked wonders. My counselor was very easy to talk to, listened and gave me great tactics for me to use.
Lastly, Mike, in charge of client care treated us like royalty. He's present with us several days a week. He brings lots of candy and treats for us. Cheese and salami trays were my favorite. He deeply cares for each person and always asked "How I was doing and if I needed anything.
I definatley 100% will recommend Soba to anyone that is struggling with addiction/mental health.

High Focus has been pivotal to my success in understanding, as well as coping with my mental health. I have gone through the program twice in 5 years and this time around was fantastic. Kellie my clinician was excellent, she was compassionate, understanding, and really pushed me when I desperately needed to be pushed. All the clinicians who ran the groups were fantastic, Karyn, Ashley, Taylor, Kellie, Kendall, you all have made such positive impacts on my life. Fantastic facilities. My daughter had surgery and they took such good care of her. She's only 6 months old and she had them all wrapped around her finger. Her post-op surgery recovery nurse, Barbara Johnson, was absolutely phenomenal with her. I experienced the MOST caring group of professionals, The nursing staff, every single one of those nurses in my opinion, deserve a raise. They put up with people coming in off the street after being on a drinking or a drug binge, some uncooperative due to going through withdrawal, some of them get their mouth going and cuss the staff out, the staff keeps a smile on their face and keeps it professional, They have a lot of patience to deal with people that are intoxicated like that.
I have to give a shout out to Desiree, she is absolutely one of the nicest people that I’ve ever met in my life, the nurse that was on the night shift Wednesday 9-24-2025 into Thursday 9-25-2025. I can’t remember her name, she is great, Denise is another professional, They were absolutely excellent in everything they do. The food was good. The portions were plentiful the behavioral health technicians if you had a question or a problem or needed an answer to a question they were right on top of it if they were tied up doing something else and they said I’ll get right back to you. They got right back to us. The client advocate coordinator. Richard is one of the nicest men I’ve ever met in my life. I give a double thumbs up to Discovery Institute and to the staff and I must repeat myself. The nursing staff puts up with a lot of people coming in that are intoxicated. They’re high coming off alcohol coming off of drugs and they just deal with everybody on an individual basis. I’ve been at a couple different facilities and I don’t want to say the other facilities name. Wanna review for you guys but you’re right up there with the other facility that I was at incredible people that gave incredible care thank you Discovery for saving my life.

Doctor, Annie, Rodriguez resident, and Dr Mark McQueeney ER Are two of the best doctors I’ve ever had to take care of me, they went above and beyond the call of duty to find out what’s going on with me even with the extreme heavy load that they had. Dr. McQueen he left his ER post for a quick five minutes to come and examine me as he Had the knowledge to do and special eye exam due to the pressure that I had behind my eye. Dr. Rodriguez physically went down to the emergency room to find a Doctor Who had the experience to do this test and Dr. McQueeney was the one she found, and both were more than willing to do whatever they had to do to find out what was going on with me and how they Could help me…… thank you, Dr. McQueeney and thank you Dr. Rodriguez for all the caring and above and beyond medical treatment that I received!! Let me start by saying I did NOT believe in group type therapy. That all changed when I walked through the doors of this facility. The staff is kind, knowledgeable, and truly care about every single patient. I was a mess walking in and was discharged with the tools needed to become a much better me. Trust the process! The group therapy sessions were not only helpful but also gave me a real sense of community and understanding. By far the best place around. If your serious about your recovery, this is the place. It’s not just all about the medication, it’s about the staff as well. My counselor, Sharece T saved my life. She goes above and beyond the call of duty and treats people as an individual, not a group, because we’re all different. She really took the time to get to know me and get to the root of the problem and checks up regularly to see if everything’s going well. I’ve been to many places, doctors, meetings and rehabs. No one has ever understood me better, witch is very important in recovery so you can be treated accordingly. I finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. I’m extremely grateful and blessed for my counselor Sharece. A huge thanks to this organization and most importantly, my counselor.

Going to the Livingston GenPsych was one of the best things I have ever done for myself - if not the best thing I have ever done for myself. The therapists there are incredible - Julie, Charlotte, Mike, Kayla, Eric are all fantastic, incredible people who have changed so many lives including my own. They truly care. The office receptionist, Provy, is a queen and a kind, friendly face who instantly makes you feel safe and the security guard, Max, is a gem as well. It is such a great, loving place and it is what you make it. The DBT program saved my life - it is hard, but give yourself up to it. :)

This is a throwaway account for my own privacy. I did the PHP and IOP program at GenPsych in Livingston after I got out of the hospital. I am indebted to the staff, counselors, and fellow clients. I was at my lowest point and am able to say now that I am the healthiest I've ever been, and it's in part because of this program. One drawback I noticed is that they did have high turnover while I was there and seemed to have a lot of newer counselors who were not as experienced, but the DBT program is something that can be administered by anyone. If you're hesitating about doing this, I'd recommend it.

So I attended the intensive outpatient DBT program here for several months, and it was a challenging, emotional and also wonderful, rewarding experience. My therapist, Kayla, was incredible - very relatable and down-to-earth, compassionate and yet still held me accountable. The front desk staff and other DBT session leaders were great too - shout-out to Provi! If you've made it this far into my review and are debating whether or not to try the DBT program: DO IT. Commit, do the homework, participate in the groups, and it will be the first (big) step towards a better life.

SHOUT OUT to the staff here..I have been to many many rehabs, and there is something different about these people, and this place..they are in my opinion, Earth Angels. No judgement, they really just want to help and are good humans! Also, the way they go about treatment, I felt really cared about , from the 1st day. I need a higher level of treatment but I will be going to Outpatient there after..
I can't recommend this place enough. They have no hard chairs that your ass goes numb from sitting in for hours, they have leather, lazy boy chairs, in the entire place, they have a quite room where you can rest if you are detoxing or dont feel good, they feed you great food, they have snacks and sodas and I was literally told "think of this place as your home away from home" and from the clinical staff, the nursing staff, the Dr., they're all special people. xoxoxoxo
