I experienced excellent treatment at El Camino Health. My surgeon and her staff provided superb care in my pre-op appointments, the quadruple bypass surgery and after visits. The hospital provided equal care in my treatment during my surgery and stay. All services were easy to set up & all testing was completed quickly. For anyone getting admitted to El Camino Scrivner Center and worriedly checking the reviews to see what type of hospital it is, I would like to reassure you from my recent experience there that it is a great psychiatric ward with very considerate and caring staff :)
I cannot speak for all units but on mine the ratio of nurses to patients was 1:4, which beneficial to patients as our needs were met swiftly and we had time to be listened to! I really felt like the nurses wanted me to get better and had time to support me through my struggles. Whenever I was experiencing symptoms, my assigned nurse for the shift was quick to help me and comfort through words and voluntary treatment approved by my psychiatrist while at the hospital.
They avoided restraining patients by doing everything to deescalate situations otherwise, while I was there I didn’t see a single person restrained. What I did see, was nurses deescalating situations that would arise and treated patients with kindness instead of invalidating their emotions.
At other psychiatric wards, I have experienced terrible treatment from staff, however on the contrary the Scrivner Center staff I interacted with during my hospitalization were trauma informed and treated me humanely and highly above the standard of care I have experienced elsewhere.
Going into the hospital here, I was concerned that they would not take my physical health seriously since it’s a psychiatric health focus, however I was once again pleasantly surprised by the wonderful treatment from Scrivner Center. They handled my chronic illnesses very well and called in specialists from outside Scrivner center to assist me with my chronic illness care.
On usage of patient phones, I was encouraged to remain social and communicate with my friends and family. There were no time limit constraints on the phones and no one was fighting over them (they had enough phones for everyone) unlike other wards I have been to. We weren’t allowed to call during group therapy activities, however the group therapy and therapists there were beneficial so it made a lot of sense why that was a rule.
To anyone reading this being admitted or with family/friends being admitted- please know things can get better from here and that you will get through this— there is no shame in seeking help! Try to go into this hospital with the goal of getting the most out of your stay here! You are stronger than you may realize right now and while I may be a stranger to you I am happy for you that you’re getting help and I’m sure your support system shares the same sentiment :) I hope others are able to share the healing experience I had at El Camino !

To the Nursing Leadership Team at Mills-Peninsula Hospital,
I recently had a very challenge surgery at your hospital, and I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to the incredible nurses who cared for me during my stay. This was one of the most significant moments of my life, and the kindness, professionalism, and compassion shown by your team made all the difference in my recovery.
I especially want to recognize Megan, Olga, Therese, Dominique, and Journey for their exceptional care. Each of them went above and beyond to ensure I was comfortable, safe, and emotionally supported through every step of this major procedure. Their gentle reassurance, attention to detail, and genuine compassion helped transform what could have been a very difficult experience into one filled with hope and calm.
Thanks to their dedication, I am now healing well, walking again, and looking forward to the months of recovery ahead. I truly felt cared for not only as a patient, but as a person.
Please extend my heartfelt appreciation to each of these nurses and let them know how much their professionalism and warmth meant to me. Mills-Peninsula Hospital should be proud to have such an outstanding team representing the best in patient care.
With sincere gratitude,

I had been losing my battle with recovery for almost fifteen years when Wellness Retreat was recommended to me. I came here severely addicted and further traumatized by what I put myself and my family through. I needed a place where I would be treated with dignity, individually recognized for what has been ailing me and personally encouraged. This what I found here, and with a genuine compassion I have never seen or felt as an addict. There is an exceptional quality here, from checkng-in through medical treatment, group processing, education, abundance of nutrition, therapy excercise, wellness and technical assistance. With a maximum of five other clients to go through the recovery process with, the Directors of the program and even the CEO rolled up their sleeves personally caring for my recovery process. For the first time in my life since I was introduced to substances I don't hate life without them. It has been almost five months since I left wellness Retreat and I still go back on Monday afternoons to join the dance classes that gave me so much hope and happiness when I was feeling so low and dark in the beginning. This is more than a Rehab, this is a Wellness Center. If you want a life worth living without drugs and alcohol, start here.

Easy traffic and parking if go there early on Fridays. Staff is very nice. Grounds are beautiful with a lot of frequent wildlife strolling by, esp early or late. One thing I would request- return of the deli. There is no place close by to get food when there are several appointments to do.

I recently completed treatment at Cliffside Malibu, and I can say without hesitation that it is one of the most clinically sophisticated and compassionate programs in the country. When I first called, Admissions told me they were ranked #1 in the state — and after experiencing the quality of care firsthand, I understand exactly why. The program not only met those expectations, it surpassed them.
From day one, the clinical team demonstrated a level of expertise, structure, and individualized attention that I’ve never seen anywhere else. Every therapist, every group, every touchpoint felt intentional and grounded in evidence-based care. You can feel how much time and thought goes into their curriculum and how deeply the staff understands trauma, addiction, and whole-person recovery.
What stood out the most was how aligned the entire team is — admissions, nursing, therapists, case management, and operations all move in the same direction. There’s a sense of steadiness and professionalism in everything they do. I never felt like “just another client.” They knew my history, tracked my progress, and actively worked with me to rebuild structure, tools, and long-term stability.
Cliffside creates an environment where safety, dignity, and real clinical work can happen. It’s not just beautiful — it’s purpose-built for healing.
If you’re looking for a program with depth, integrity, and proven outcomes, Cliffside Malibu absolutely lives up to its reputation. I’m grateful for the care I received, and I would recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone who truly wants to change their life.

Working with Riviera Living has been an absolute pleasure for me. I have truly enjoyed leading wellness and movement sessions for the residents — their enthusiasm, openness, and warmth create such a beautiful energy in every class. It’s clear that Riviera Living fosters a supportive and uplifting environment, and I feel grateful to be part of it.
What stands out most is how deeply the staff cares for their residents. My disabled but independent son has been at Riviera living for over a year now. Riviera has a medication room; Pedro is very good at making sure my son takes his medication twice a day. They re-order his medication when needed and have it mailed to the facility. They have a cafeteria that cooks really hearty homestyle meals three times a day and snacks in between.
The housekeeper Susan is very aware of everyone that comes and goes. She cleans each room once a week and is like a Mom to the residents. One attendant- Elizabeth saved my son's life when she noticed he was acting strangely and followed him to his room where he had collapsed and was not breathing well. She called an ambulance.
Overall, I think that the staff are very vigilant but overworked. I think that they should hire more attendants so there is always at least 2 at a time in each house, even at night. I think it would be better if they opened a cafeteria in each home so that the residents don't have to cross the street to get to the cafeteria. Also- it would be good if they could organize hair cut visits and pedicure visits because my son will not go on his own and cannot cut his toenails by himself. The laundry is down the street so it is inconvenient for the residents to do their own laundry.

I gotta give these guys 5 stars mainly because the only other review is an (in my opinion) unfair one star rating. I was in Villa Fairmont several years ago and while it may have had some problems (more like a 3.5 or 4 star) it was a place that helped me stabilize in a safe location until I was accepted in a Dual Diagnosis Recovery Home (Bonita House). I currently work in the recovery field and live an independent life. To me that is worth all of the struggles that I have had with any of the programs I have been in. Gotta go through hell before you get to heaven. That's just the way it is when you have a diagnosis that isn't socially acceptable... The system may not be perfect and there is certainly lots of broken components, but we need some kind of system and it does work for some. I know because I'm one.

Using the VA hospital system in any city, state is not the same. I had to move around to couch surf and homeless for over ten years ending up in states between California and Florida including Washington and Utah. I have had to restart everything over every time I moved and I learned a few things over those 10 years about doctor appointments and different appointments for eyes and blood work so let me begin by saying that if you show up at 10 am and it's not busy or 1 pm and it's a mad house, either way just tell them that you are using the VA transportation and you are on a scheduled pickup and they usually move you through pretty quickly.
I can't say it's foolproof but it's a little bit of an edge for those complaining about long waiting for blood work. Just remember, don't set the bar too high of expectation, you get what you pay for, and if you don't like the VA then just pay for private health care.
Oh, they get complaints but nothing like the VA hospital system.

I want to give a huge thank you to Silicon Valley Recovery for all the help, support, and healing I received while I was in treatment. My therapist, Nick, was incredible—he truly helped me do the internal work I needed on a personal level. I’m also grateful to my counselor, Joaquin, and to Joaquin and Sam for helping me with all of my legal and DMV issues during my stay.
English is my second language, and sometimes I felt a little intimidated—especially when my English felt broken—but everyone there was so supportive. They made me feel at home, accepted, and confident. That meant so much to me.
During my time at SVR, I grew a lot as an individual. They helped me build a new way of life, and recovery has shown me how amazing life can be. I’m truly grateful for that.
You can really feel the dedication and compassion from everyone at SVR. The love and care they show each client is something special, and it made a huge difference in my experience. The program itself is amazing—I enjoyed every activity, every outing, and every meeting.
A big shout-out to housekeeping, the chef, the technicians, the facilitators, the medical staff, the nurses, John, Sonia, and everyone else who works so hard behind the scenes. Thank you for everything you do. This place truly made a positive impact on my life.
I’m looking forward to continuing to be part of my SVR family through the alumni program.

I don’t even know where to begin — Silicon Valley Recovery Center changed my life.
I arrived here broken, scared, exhausted, and unsure of where to turn next. From the moment I walked in, the entire team accepted me with open arms. They met every need I had, without hesitation or judgment. They didn’t just give me treatment — they gave me safety, dignity, and hope.
As a member of the LGBTQ community and an African-American man, I am always mindful of where I seek support. Not once did I feel judged, misunderstood, or discriminated against here. I felt respected, valued, and seen. That alone is priceless.
They also welcomed my dog, Asher — which was non-negotiable for me. Not only did they accept him, they loved him, accommodated him, and made sure he had everything he needed. They even went above and beyond and drove me more than an hour away to tour safe housing options for after treatment. That level of compassion and effort is rare.
The programming here is incredible — thoughtful, structured, intentional, and truly life-changing. The therapists, counselors, case managers, medical team, and staff are some of the most genuine humans I’ve ever met. The food is amazing, the amenities are comfortable, and the environment feels like a community, not a facility.
I came here lost and overwhelmed. I’m leaving grounded, clear, hopeful, and excited for the future. I will forever be grateful for what this place has done for me, and I mean that with my whole heart.
If you are looking for a place to heal — a place that treats you like a human being, not a number — this is where you need to be. Silicon Valley Recovery Center saved my life, and I would recommend it to anyone.
If they ever need someone to share a testimonial, speak to potential clients, or represent the program publicly, I’m their guy — that’s how deeply I believe in this place. My dream is to come back one day and work here so I can give back even a fraction of what they gave me.
Thank you, SVRC — for everything. I am forever grateful.
